Sony, which has been making Android devices for years, could reportedly offer up a Windows Phone handset in the middle of 2014.
Sony is considering launching a Windows Phone handset in mid-2014, The Information reported on Tuesday, citing a person who claims to have knowledge of the company’s plans.
If true, the surprising move could send shock waves through the mobile space. Over the last several years, Sony has been exclusively developing Android-based devices. This would be the first time the company would get into the Windows Phone space.
According to The Information, which requires a paid subscription, Microsoft is also trying to woo other handset makers and has cut software-licensing fees to aid in those efforts.
